At 17 years old, David learnt to fly before he was qualified to drive having gained a Royal Navy flying scholarship. He joined the Fleet Air Arm direct from school and qualified as a helicopter pilot flying Gazelles and Sea Kings.
After leaving the Navy, he went into the motor and property business and enjoyed over 10 years as a Magistrate on the Sussex Central Bench.
When not working, David enjoys sailing, skiing and touring Europe on his motorbike.
Having flown microlights and helicopters, he now flies a Sting S4 light sports aircraft.
Like many youngsters, Gerry soloed a glider at 16 and went on to enjoy a long career with a major international airline flying 707, 757 and the 747-100/200/400 and ended his airline career as a Training Standardisation Captain.
He finished heavy jet flying with the Royal Flight of Oman, flying for Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
Light aviation has always been a major activity with the build of two aircraft and instructing at Shoreham.
His current mount is a delightful RV-6 which he flies from Deanland as often as possible.
