About Deanland Airfield
Nestled in the South Downs of East Sussex, lies Deanland Airfield, a site rich in both historic significance and light aviation activity. Originally established as RAF Deanland during the Second World War, it served as an Advanced Landing Ground designed to support the Allies’ push into occupied Europe.

Glyndebourne Opera

Deanland Airfield has been hosting both corporate and private helicopters visiting the opera for over 20 years. With our illuminated runway & helipad we are just 15 minutes by road to the opera house. In addition we have a dedicated crew room with TV, AC, internet and refreshments for the pilots.

Defending freedom in WWII
Originally established as RAF Deanland during the Second World War, the airfield served as an Advanced Landing Ground designed to support the Allies’ push into occupied Europe. During its short wartime life the airfield hosted several fighter squadrons, including those flying the iconic Supermarine Spitfire.

Today, Deanland operates under the ICAO code EGKL and continues as a thriving hub for private and sport flying. It retains its historic character while also being mindful of the environment and local community: the airfield promotes wildlife habitats, tree‑planting, and works closely with local parish councils on noise abatement and land‑use issues Flying training and experience flights have been taking place at Deanland since 2002.
